Istv\u00e1n Sz\u0151nyi is an outstanding figure of 20th century Hungarian painting. He lived and worked in Zebeg\u00e9ny from 1924 until his death. It was here that his art came to full fruition, his painting inspired by the magical beauty of the landscape, the people of the village and the members of his family. His former house and studio have been a museum since 1967. The aim of the museum founders was to preserve and present as faithfully as possible the environment in which the works were created.<\/p>

Zsuzsa Sz\u0151nyi, the heiress of the house in Zebeg\u00e9ny, has lived in Italy since 1949 with her husband, M\u00e1ty\u00e1s Triznya. In 1967, she was able to come home as an Italian citizen for her mother's funeral, and in her book Triznya's Tavern she wrote the story of the museum's foundation. Zsuzsa Sz\u0151nyi. 1999<\/p>

P\u00e1l P\u00e1tzay, an old friend of the family, was asked to organise the preparations for the museum. The museum became a member institution of the Pest County Museum Network, but the Hungarian National Gallery's staff took care of the inventory of the works and the conservation of the damaged pieces. The first permanent exhibition was organised by art historian Ir\u00e9n Kisd\u00e9gin\u00e9 Kirimi. The opening ceremony took place on 18 August 1967. Since 2017, the museum has been maintained by the Municipality of Zebeg\u00e9ny.<\/p>

The permanent exhibition of the former Sz\u0151nyi family furniture<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0and furnishings include a major painting from each of the Master's creative periods, providing a complete cross-section of Istv\u00e1n Sz\u0151nyi's oeuvre. Among the works on display are \"The Garden Bench\" \"The Old Ferryman\" \"The Evening Train\" and \"The Village in Autumn\".<\/p>

The collection's rich graphic material is regularly exhibited in thematic temporary exhibitions.The M\u00e1ty\u00e1s Triznya Zsuzsa Sz\u0151nyi-Sz\u0151nyi M\u00e1ty\u00e1s Triznya Memorial Room was opened in 2013 and completely renewed in 2024, on the 100th anniversary of the birth of Zsuzsa Sz\u0151nyi (1924-2014), where paintings, photographs, personal objects and documents recall the rich life of the couple. The collection also includes some interesting works from the Bart\u00f3ky family legacy, including a youthful drawing by Mih\u00e1ly Munk\u00e1csy of J\u00f3zsef Bart\u00f3ky's mother, Jol\u00e1n Szulim\u00e1n, and works by K\u00e1roly Lotz, Bertalan Sz\u00e9kely and L\u00e1szl\u00f3 Medny\u00e1nszky. Sz\u0151nyi's artist friends - R\u00f3bert Ber\u00e9ny, Vilmos Aba Nov\u00e1k, Aur\u00e9l Bern\u00e1th, Jen\u0151 Elekfy, Elem\u00e9r Vass and many others - donated a number of works to the artist.
